Life in the Information Age - Education

When we looked at how Education has changed, in our work on On-line Services page 14 to 15.  What we have also discovered is that Education now longer runs for 4 to 16, followed by A levels or other courses at 6th form at a school or college.  Education has also become part of work, with some employers giving staff time off to due further study, other will sponsor their staff through University.  The establishment of the Open University has also changed the face of education and has allowed many people who did not go on to University straight after school to access higher education, by taking part-time courses.

School and Colleges have set up Virtual Learning Environments (VLE) or Moodles.  Since the last Labour Government change the leaving age for students, all students will have to take some course after the age 16 up till the age of 18.

These changes in Education has meant that we often refer to life long learning, which has had an effect on work as now there is an expectation that staff will engage in some form of Continuing Personal Development (CPD).

The real issue is given that many learners now use the Internet as their main source of information, how can we trust the information that we get on-line is accurate.  See the task on Page 29 Activity 7.
